Health officer decries lack of funding for public health

GOSHEN — The county health officer is dismayed at the level of public health spending in Indiana as recently reported by a statewide commission.

Health Officer Dr. Richard Hostetter told the Elkhart County Board of Health that Indiana spends among the least in the nation on the health of its residents and that Hoosiers can expect to live shorter lives as a consequence.

The local department has experienced the lack of funding firsthand, he said.
