Admission to Post-Secondary Education

Why we track this indicator

The admission process into post-secondary education, such as colleges, universities, and vocational programs, is one of the final steps that youth experience, and is the culmination of a myriad of factors throughout their lifespan. Post-secondary education is well documented to show effects on socio-economic factors for individuals. Additional research has shown a link between educational attainment and health outcomes.

Methodology

Methodology: The post-secondary admissions rate is calculated using the total number of graduates and the number of students planning or admitted into post-secondary coursework. The local rate for Elkhart County is compared to the state graduation rate. The resulting difference between the local and state rate determines the trend.

Goal: To observe a higher post-secondary admissions rate than the state of Indiana.

The ‘Data Action Mini Grant’ program will provide low barrier grants to collaborating partners which will help increase cross-system collaboration and facilitate the community response to needs and/or gaps identified through the Elkhart County Child Dashboard. Applicants may request up to $2,000. Two or more applicants can collaborate for collaborative action based upon one or more data indicators and increase the grant request. By leveraging the ‘Data Action Mini Grant’ program partners can have a platform that helps to inform community goals and creates a stronger sustainability platform for their programs.
